Dercums Disease

Queensland man has for many years suffered with excess weight all over his entire body. It has now come to the forefront at long last that his problem is Familial Multiple Lipomatosis which is Dercum’s disease. Parts of the body are covered in lumps in the Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue. There is also lymphoedema in his legs which is very painful on touch. Obesity is a major problem with Dercum’s causing other medical problems. There is one huge lump above his right knee and very heavy, making walking very difficult. Treatment has been trialled, MLDT, compression bandaging, massaging, it all helps short term, but the lump comes back again. Liposuction maybe the only solution to remove this lump.
Symptoms of Dercum’s Disease.
- Sleep disorder
- anxiety
- depression
- cognitive difficulties (brain fog)
- tachycardia
- shortness of breath
- gastrointestinal disturbances
- DD is similar to fibromyalgia but with the addition of painful lipomatosis in the S.A.T.
Serious Rare Complications:
- Blood clots
- fat emboli
- fatty heart
- early cardiovascular disease, and
- lymphedema
Dercum’s Disease:
Dercum's disease is an extremely rare disorder characterized by multiple, painful growths consisting of fatty tissue (lipomas). Pain may be caused by the lipomas pressing on nearby nerves. Dercum's disease mainly occurs in adults.
